As I'm sure many of you have heard , Comcast is currently in the final stages of acquiring one of its largest competitors Time Warner. This has made a lot of waves in not only the subscriber television market, but also in the consumer internet market.;Netflix has recently written a very telling blog post on the case against isp tolls, and I wanted to share it with as many people as possible.
It's an alarming trend that threatens the internet and all of the services that travel over it. Essentially, what Comcast is doing is charging providers a fee to deliver their services to you. So now, they are charging you for your internet access. Then they are charging companies for the right to deliver content to you. It's a double dip of epic proportions. Not to mention, the increase in costs for Netflix that will be passed along to the consumers eventually.
This is a graph that shows the increase in quality once Netflix paid up and the direct connection was established.
If you have a spare second head over to Netflix's blog to check out all the details. It's a very educational look at how Net Neutrality is a dream, and how corporations will soon be controlling the content we consume on the internet more than ever.
It's crucially important to make sure that we do everything in our power to let our elected officials know that we are for net neutrality.
