Star2Star announced encrypted voice traffic yesterday. With the amount of press about the insecurity of cloud based products recently, I think it's a great step forward.
"StarGuard Secure Voice is an optional service than can be added to any Star2Star cloud communications system. It encrypts VoIP data at the telephone itself, making it virtually impossible to intercept. Even sophisticated "man in the middle" attacks are ineffective against StarGuard"
Most people automatically assume that because traffic is routed over the cloud it is less secure than standard telephone services. The fact of the matter is that typically, standard voice service can be listened in on from a $15.00 device on eBay. When it is in the hands of someone who knows how to use is it they can listen in on any number of telephone calls.
Provided that the service is as easy to use as normally picking up the telephone, this is a very welcome addition.
